East Texas weather is hard on anything built outside. Heat, humidity, and afternoon storms find every shortcut within two summers.
So we build outdoor spaces the way we build indoor ones: proper footings, fasteners and flashing chosen for the conditions, and framing that is ventilated instead of trapped. Decking gets laid with the gaps it needs to shed water and move with the seasons, and posts are set so the rail is still solid when somebody leans on it in five years.
Covered spaces are where an outdoor room becomes usable in July. A roof tied properly into the house, a ceiling that takes a fan, and enough power and water run out there before the concrete goes down means the grill, the fridge, and the television all have somewhere to live that was planned rather than improvised.
